Art in Support of Healing: Medical Humanities and Medical Training

More than two centuries after Laura Bassi was appointed a full Professor in Experimental Physics, women continue to make significant strides in scientific research. Despite this progress, with 46% of researchers in Italy being female, the percentage declines in STEM fields, where a gender gap persists. However, Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma stands out as a positive model, being one of the twelve Italian universities with a majority of female students enrolled in scientific disciplines. This initiative reflects both cultural and tangible actions that promote gender equality, as Professor Simonetta Filippi emphasizes.
UCBM is developing a three-year strategic plan to further enhance gender equality through initiatives in corporate welfare and tracking opportunities. In this context, the women of the university excel in various areas: from researchers participating in events and scientific conferences, such as Loredana Zollo and Marcella Trombetta, to young Daniela Lo Presti, winner of the Sensor 2021 Best Ph.D. Thesis Award. There is no shortage of female students, like Gaia Dobici and Francesca Ronci, who reached prestigious finals with their innovative project, SmartPharma. Thus, the university confirms itself as an incubator of female talent, contributing to a more inclusive and equitable scientific future.
