Giampaolo Ghilardi
Medicine is not merely a science; it is, above all, an art—a practice that combines empirical knowledge with an attentive focus on the deeper meaning of human life.
Following in the footsteps of Platon and Aristotle, this article explores two complementary perspectives: the narrative approach, which centers on the life story and uniqueness of each individual, and the analytical approach, grounded in scientific observation and data analysis.
A dialogue between philosophy and medicine that invites us to rediscover a clinical practice capable of harmonizing mind and heart, science and humanity.
Giampaolo Ghilardi is Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University Campus Bio-Medico in Rome, where he teaches courses in Philosophical Anthropology, General Ethics and Ethics of Technology in the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery and Engineering.
He is a member of the Clinical Bioethics Service of the Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico, the Research Unit in Bioethics and Humanities and is co-director of the Ethics of Well-Done Work Series.
Fellow of the Athenaeum of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Bergamo in the class of Moral and Historical Sciences; Visiting Professor at the Centro Interdisciplinario de Bioetica, Universidad Panamericana, Mexico; he is also a lecturer at the PhD in Bioethics at the University Campus Biomedico in Rome and at several Master's programs with a bioethical theme. His prevailing line of research is in the area of fundamental moral philosophy within which he conducted a personal investigation of the analogical foundations of moral reasoning.
From here he then declined this rational model on a wide range of topics in anthropology and applied ethics.
